Vice Admiral Albert W. Grant Dedication
As part of the Society's World War I programs the honoring of contributions by local people became a priority. Among them was Vice Admiral Grant. Albert Grant was appointed Cadet Midshipman from Wisconsin June 10, 1873 at the Annapolis Naval Academy and graduated on June 20, 1877. He was commissioned Ensign May 17, 1881.
He retired on April 14, 1920 upon reaching the statutory retiring age of sixty-four years. He died in Philadelphia on September 30, 1930.
On November 24, 1943, the USS Albert W. Grant (DD-649), a Fletcher-class destroyer was commissioned for service in the United States Navy during World War II. The naming of a ship in honor of an Admiral is a rare honor and is a fitting tribute to this distinguished man who served his country for many years.

A part of the celebration of Vice Adm. Grant's commemoration, his family was invited to Stevens Point. To our surprise 17 decendents of the Vice Admiral made the journey! They attended and participated in our April 6, 2017 program at Sentry theater, but April 7th was the Admiral's Day.
